SMS Compliance

Verbal SMS Opt-In Workflow

Sable uses a verbal consent workflow. This page documents the exact script grooming shop staff read to clients at booking, the five-step workflow that follows, and the in-app form staff use to record the consent.

Verbal Consent Script

Read aloud verbatim by grooming shop staff at time of booking

“Would you like to receive text message updates about your grooming appointments from [Shop Name]? We’ll send you appointment reminders about 24 hours before your visit, a text when your dog is ready for pickup, and an occasional re-engagement message if it’s been more than 8 weeks since your last visit.

Message frequency varies — typically 2 to 4 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe, or HELP for assistance.

Do I have your permission to sign you up for these text messages at [phone number]?”

This script satisfies all 6 CTIA-required consent elements:

  • Identity of sender (grooming shop)
  • Message types (reminders, pickup, re-engagement)
  • Message frequency (2–4 per month)
  • Message & data rates disclosure
  • STOP to unsubscribe
  • HELP for assistance

The verbal opt-in workflow

Every SMS opt-in on Sable follows these five steps — no exceptions, no shortcuts.

  1. 1

Client books an appointment (in person or by phone)

The client contacts the grooming shop to schedule a visit for their dog. No SMS consent is assumed or collected at this point.

  2. 2

Staff reads the verbal consent script above

Word-for-word, every time. The script names the shop, lists the three message types, discloses frequency and rates, and explains STOP / HELP keywords.

  3. 3

    Client verbally agrees

Staff proceeds only if the client says yes and confirms the phone number. If the client declines, no SMS opt-in is recorded and no messages are ever sent.

  4. 4

Staff records the consent in Sable

Inside the authenticated app, staff enters the client and actively ticks the SMS consent checkbox (see form preview below). The box is unchecked by default — checking it is the affirmative act.

  5. 5

    Opt-in confirmation SMS sent automatically

Sable immediately fires a welcome text containing all six CTIA-required disclosures. If the client didn't actually consent, they can reply STOP right there and are opted back out instantly.
